There were a few little things I wanted to do on my BRZ today, and aside from bleeding the front brakes again (much better now) it was easier to just take the front bumper off.

Last winter my other half bumped an ice bank when she spun after the finish line at a BMW club IceCross event (think rallycross on a frozen lake), which cracked part of my bumper. At least it’s a good story, and not like she did something dumb in a parking lot. I’ve tried various remedies from the outside, none of which worked. More recently even tape wasn’t working, because the heat made it not stick well and made the plastic more flexible and willing to hang down. But with the bumper off, I could glue the heck out of it from the back side, where no one would ever see it and it didn’t matter how ugly it was.

I also took the opportunity to install my Hella Supertone horns. Only one is visible here - the other is under the passenger headlight (factory locations for both). They sound great, but I’m not sure I like the red peeking out through the grill. I may paint it black instead so it blends in rather than clashing red like it does now.

You can also see the painter’s tape I used to hold the cracked part of the bumper together while the glue dried. When I removed it, it held together all by itself. Once I clean up some adhesive I’ll hit it with the touch up paint pen.

All in all, it was a productive morning. The temperature and humidity were both low enough for me to be comfortable outside, unlike the past few times I’ve swapped brake pads before and after track events when it felt like being in a sauna. I also picked up and replaced a busted reverse light bulb for the other half’s Focus.

I kinda like the horn red. But, it’s not my ride..

Eastwood has a great Plastic Welder for the next bumper repair. Easy to use and cheap.
